Sierra Leone Ports and harbours Authority Impresses US Coast Guards.
The United States Coast Guards has commended the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority for its compliance on international best practice on safety and security at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay in Freetown.
The team made these revelations during its routine visit at the Freetown Port to inspect compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code, a comprehensive audit of measures to enhance security for ship and Port facility worldwide. The team conducted a port survey, inspected vehicle, pedestrian and truck access control, port perimeter, CCTV room, and port interface with vessels.
The US Coast Guards team leader Scott Wollard said the Authority has made considerable improvement on access control, procedures, survillancing, and the perimeter fencing at the Freetown Port. He urged the management of SLPHA to maintain and improve on the status quo.
Welcoming the team, the Director General of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority, Yankuba Askia Bio highlited the phenomenal reforms the Authority has made on structural and service delivery including berth expansion, security surveillance and efficiency in the operations of the port. He maintained that these reforms have placed trust on bigger vessels and crews to come to Sierra Leone.
The team also visited the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration, Petro Jetty, Nectar Sierra Leone Bulk Terminal and the African Global Logistics.
