The Port of Nitti

The port of Nitti is one of the specialized ports in Sierra Leone that handles bauxite, rutile sand, Ilmenite and zircon mineral exports, it is located at the Southern Province of Sierra Leone approximately at Latitude 7°46’60” N Longitude 12°24’0″ W, the estimated terrain elevation above sea level is approximately 11 meters. The port of Nitti has two major terminals. Nitti 1 managed and operated by Sierra Rutile Company Limited for the export of Rutile sand, Ilmenite, Zarcon and Nitti 2 managed and operated Sierra Mineral Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Vimetco for the export of Bauxite. Both port handles an average of 40 capsize vessels annually. The port is restricted by a depth of 4meters approximately 11 nm from Nitti 1 and Nitti 2. The means of transporting the cargo is by barges pushed by boats from the loading port of Nitti to the anchorages.
