AS SECURITY HEIGHTENS AT THE PORT OF FREETOWN: SLPHA FACILITATES DESTRUCTION OF 396 CARTONS OF TRAMADOL
In what could be described as unprecedented in the fight against the importation of drugs in Sierra Leone, the Management of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) facilitated the destruction of 396 cartons of Tramadol worth millions of United States dollars.
The destruction was done in collaboration with the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Office of National Security (ONS) at the TOCU Headquarters at Rogbangba Junction, Hastings in Freetown.
The 396 cartons of narcotic drugs were recently intercepted at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay during joint operations involving the management of SLPHA, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), ONS, Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone, National Revenue Authority, among others.
SLPHA Director General, Yankuba Bio, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to strengthening preventive measures and working with relevant stakeholders to combat illicit drug trafficking through the nation’s ports.
