70 SLPHA SECURITY PERSONNEL CERTIFIED AFTER INTENSIVE TRAINING

Seventy (70) security personnel of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority(SLPHA) have successfully completed a two-week intensive professional training program at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA) in Hastings.
The training was aimed at strengthening the capacity of SLPHA’s security personnel and equipping them with the knowledge and practical skills required to effectively perform their duties within the port environment.
Speaking at the passing-out ceremony on Saturday, 3rd October 2026, SLPHA Deputy Director General, Madam Judith Kosseh, described the training as an important step towards strengthening the first line of defense of Sierra Leone’s economy, noting that more than 90% of the country’s trade passes through its ports.

“A secured port is a secured nation,” Madam Kosseh stated. She told the newly certified personnel that they are no longer simply guards, but trained Port Facility Security Personnel, expected to operate professionally and in accordance with national and international security standards. Madam Kosseh urged the graduates to uphold professionalism, vigilance, discipline and integrity, while protecting port facilities, cargo, personnel and other stakeholders and supporting the safe and efficient operation of the ports.
The Commandant of SILEA, ACP Brima Kamara, Esq., said the training was structured around three major components: academic instruction, drill and parade, and physical training.
The newly acquired skills are expected to enhance the personnel’s ability to identify and respond to security threats, enforce access control measures and contribute effectively to the protection of Sierra Leone’s port facilities. The programme and its successful completion further demonstrates SLPHA’s commitment to strengthening port security, developing its personnel and ensuring compliance with national and international maritime security standards.
